Dear Friends & Ministry Partners,

John 12:24 (NIVUK) says; “Very truly I tell you, unless a grain of wheat falls to the ground and dies, it remains only a single seed. But if it dies, it produces many seeds.”

Spontaneous Disciple Making is all about growing Christians up to maturity so they are living like Jesus, finding fertile soil (people who are interested in learning about God) and planting seeds (by sharing the gospel with them).

God is doing so many wonderful things that it is difficult to select only a few to share with you.

Ron and Bev Nelson Alberta Directors Report on their Ministry Trip to Haiti:

Our translator Jean Claude Esther has continued to conduct DCI training workshops since we left Haiti. There is much excitement at each workshop. They are reaching out and many people have received Christ as their Saviour, including the two men on the right who were gang members from the slums of Jacmel. They plan to change the city and surrounding area. The great need is for Bibles to follow-up all these new believers. 72 of the 87 Pastors we trained did not have a Bible in their own (Creole) language. We hope to provide Bibles for them. Could you help?

Hans and Elly Timmermans Canadians serving in Malawi, East Africa: They Report:

“After attending the DCI training, Pastor Smarton Manda started discipling and training leaders at the Nkhata Bay prison. He said that 49 prisoners have come to the Lord and they are being discipled. Some prisoners wanted to worship with his church. By the love of God, the authorities who are in charge of the prison have said that they will be escorting these people for Sunday Services at church.

Hans and Elly share that they have equipped a team of 4 National leaders who started 1 Group in Karonga area. This group became 7 Groups, that reproduced to 27 and according to a recent report they are now at 90 groups (90 X 10+ = 900+ people) – and they are still reproducing!

Simeon Oyugi Nairobi, Kenya:

“Greetings in the precious Name of Jesus Christ and to God be all the glory. The Team which arrived in Kitale on the 13th, just returned today with a good report of Souls harvested to the Kingdom. On their arrival in Kitale, they conducted a training workshop in a church with 28 Pastors and leaders. They equipped them to go door to door and people began to receive Jesus and in 3 days they had 13 people receiving Jesus Christ. The following week, 5 of the 13 who received Jesus Christ began calling their friends who opened their homes for the Gospel and when the Kitale people saw what was happening, they called it Networking Evangelism. The whole game changed! Now they saw that every home needed Jesus!
Sadly, they were interrupted as cattle rustlers attacked the near by village and so they had to find a safe place. The attack was very serious and a number of people have been killed and some people ran away from their homes for lack of security.
The good news is that by the time the team came back, they left 55 New Discovery Groups in the community. In total 68 people received Jesus. The team was also welcomed and asked to share the Gospel during funerals and in this situation they could not tell how many people got saved because it was a large crowd and they all lifted their hands needing prayer.”
News just in; “Pastor Robert has just returned from the coastal region of Kenya and files the following report; ‘We had 20 leaders from Mombasa, and 72 leaders from Kilifi County and hundreds of people giving their Lives to the Lord, but they could only account for 270 as the county is ravaged by famine now and people are feeding on Leaves of any tree or plant. Every night people were receiving Jesus and disappearing in search of food. But DCI gave hope to the hopeless and if we could help provide nutritious food for them, there would be an even greater time to harvest thousands of Souls to the Kingdom of God. Because any gathering attracts people in search of hope which only Jesus can give and any humanitarian support would lead to a great miracle harvest of Souls.
In this location many Muslims received Jesus to give them hope for their lives.’
Pastor Robert told me (Simeon) this morning that the New Discovery Groups established was 127, one of the biggest number ever to be recorded in the year 2016.”
Simeon says; “Pastor Robert mentioned to me, that when he closed the training and announced he was going back to Nairobi the people were not ready to let him go, because he had given them hope, hunger, thirst and a passion for God. He told me how he saw them harvesting wild leaves to cook for him because he was a visitor which he ate together with them.
You can Google for yourself and see what is going on in Kilifi with this strange famine – dying vegetation, killing animals, birds and people. God have mercy on this desperate situation.Link: http://kenyanewsagency.go.ke/en/famine-looms-as-crops-fail-in- kilifi-county/
DCI is moving in areas that even Government official would not dare go to unless under organized security.
We thank God for DCI.
– Simeon.”

Jing Estrella Philippines: Shares;

“The training in Bukidnon went well. Sixty two people attended representing 9 churches. The training focused mostly on One-to-One Discipleship particularly on the Basics and Discipling because this is what they were requesting. They set a goal of finishing cross-training each other until the whole membership of their churches has completed the Dynamic Basics before the end of 2016.
I also presented to them the Discovery Group Process and some leaders expressed the desire to have further follow-up meetings about this strategy.
Please pray for permanent, stable peace and order in Davao City and the entire Mindanao province.
On September 2, 2016, at around 10:00 PM, Davao City was bombed. 16 people were confirmed dead and more than 60 were critically injured. The Abu Sayaff group claimed responsibility. Pray that God will frustrate their plans of spreading terrorism to other provinces of Mindanao.

Clair Ziolkowski – Canadian working in Zambia:

Clair had an amazing trip to Zambia last summer and was scheduled for surgery when he returned. That went well, but then he had several other health problems that kept him in the hospital for several weeks.
He reports on the trip; “I believe that the work that has been started in Zambia, will continue to grow and flourish under God’s servants that he has in place in Zambia. Thank you for your prayers and support, for me and the ministry, as we continue to provide the Bibles, devotionals, food and dresses to those in need in Zambia. The Pastors have expressed their love and gratefulness for the ministry we had there. The Good News that has been shared and preached to thousands of people, has given them hope for eternity in Heaven for so many lives and encouraged the Pastors to continue in their ministries to boldly share the Good News of Jesus Christ to their people.”

Clair plans to return to Zambia in April next year. He has been trained to be able to equip the Pastors in our DCI strategy, and he has materials being printed there so that he can conduct DCI workshops for Pastors. He also will develop a team of national leaders there to be able to carry on and expand disciple-making throughout Zambia.
Thank you for your prayers and financial support! Through you God is expanding His Kingdom. We together with you are a team and we very much need each other to accomplish the great work God has given us to do!

Donations can be sent to the DCI address, or through Canada Helps in Canada or Network for Good in the U.S. (both online).
May God bless you all!

Malawi Testimonies

Dear friends,

Want to have more reasons to praise the Lord? Here’s some more testimonies from our team in Malawi. We received these yesterday – following their second trip to Nkhata Bay for 3 more days of teaching and training of leaders.

The testimonies from:

· Gracious Sichali, “these teachings are good, and from these teachings of DCI I have managed to open up some other church branches, many people are accepting Christ and they are being discipled and placed in various life groups.”
· Major Godfrey Chagwa (Salvation Army Church), “I have learnt a lot from DCI teachings, one to one disciple making is one of the ways of developing leaders. As I continue discipling people through one to one it becomes very easy for me to identify leaders and their capacities. And very soon we expect to open another church branch out of the DCI teachings, even the LG multiplication is still taking place, which really tells us that soon our community will be covered up with the gospel, and we thank God for His mercies.”
· Pastor Smarton Manda (Calvary Family Church), “one to one discipling has helped a lot, for more people have discovered what eternal life means, and many are accepting Christ in their lives. My church is growing in numbers and in faith. I have also started the prison ministry where a lot of prisoners are getting saved through one to one discipleship, and last week 49 prisoners accepted Christ.”

Please continue to pray for our team. They returned home early from this trip because of sickness. Perhaps caused by food, we don’t know….but we do know that without your prayers, this work would not move forward as it is. Satan does not like what is happening – his territory is being won over by Jesus Christ. Here’s another small excerpt from their report:

“The percentage of psychiatric people is very high, and it is heard that many are chamba (Indian hemp) smokers and some are bewitched, and it is also believed that if one has been bewitched like that, then the one who has done that shall be having a big catch of fish in the lake, they also believe that the more he moves from one place to another it means the catch of fish grows….”

We have many reasons to be thankful. You are one of them. Thanks for your interest. Praise the Lord with us!

Haiti Trip Update – October

c0cc25f9-a19b-436b-833d-7cc42fb6d5f21

from Ron and Bev Nelson

Friends and Ministry Partners,
2 Timothy 2:1-2: “You then, my son, be strong in the grace that is in Christ Jesus. And the things you have heard me say in the presence of many witnesses entrust to reliable people who will also be qualified to teach others. ” (NIV)

When we went to Haiti, we discussed going in March 2017 when it would be cooler. Gods plan was to go in August 2016. Yes it was very hot and humid. However as you will see in this newsletter, Gods timing quickly became very obvious…

Global Update – August/September 2016

by Al and Mary Middleton

A PDF copy with photos is here: August 2016 Middleton Report.

Dear Friends & Ministry Partners,

Genesis 9:7

… be fruitful and increase in number; multiply on the earth and increase upon it.” God’s plan has always been that we Reproduce both Physically and Spiritually! At 74 years old I am not quite as active physically, but I am more fruitful that ever through the national leaders we have equipped!

Spontaneous Disciple Making strategy based on reaching into our communities!

This strategy is based on 1)Praying for God to lead you to people, 2)Doing deeds of kindness in the community (being visibly Christian), 3)Finding people who are open to the gospel, 4)Begin a Discovery Group with them and their family and/or friends, 5)Baptize those who receive Jesus Christ, 6)Establish each new Christian using Dynamic Basic, 7)Recruit and Develop new leaders using Dynamic Discipling, 8)Expand the present Church ministry or Plant New Churches and 9)Continue to Mentor the Discovery Group Leaders and/or Church Planters.

Ron and Bev Nelson Alberta Directors Report on their Ministry Trip to Haiti:

“The temperature was hot and humid, but the pastors just kept coming and coming. We expected 40, but 50 showed up, then 60, then 70 and we ended up with 87 who completed the training! The Pastors are eager to be equipped and take Haiti for Jesus! Churches in Haiti vary from 12 to 500 people in size and have a Kingdom focus. Haiti is very poor. There are pastors there who do not even have a Bible in their own language – Creole. We visited an orphanage and observed an incredible prayer and praise time. They are on fire!! We experienced a tropical storm one day that blew out the back wall of the chapel where we were meeting, but the pastors kept doing the One-to-One. That shows me how important this training is to them!”

Hans and Elly Timmermans Canadians serving in Malawi, East Africa.

Doing Deeds of Kindness in the Community: LIFE MAIZE MILL

They Report: “Two weeks ago there was a funeral in the community and the family of the person who died was very poor, so we offered to mill their maize for free so they could feed all the people who came to attend the funeral as one way Life Maize Mill can be a help to this family and the community. We want to maintain a good testimony since all people know that the Mill belongs to a Christian group.

Amazingly the chief made a very strong statement of how the Life Maize Mill is helping the community. He was addressing hundreds of people that came to the funeral – some came from a far distance. They all went back home hearing the good deeds the Life Maize Mill does in this community and this has been a story going around the whole area!”

Simeon Oyugi our Rep. in Nairobi, Kenya

Finding People who are open to the Gospel – Sharing the Gospel – Following-up by Equipping them with Dynamic Basics and Discovery Groups

Simeon is able to draw many Pastors together for training. Also, he recently was invited by the University of Nairobi to return and train more students in our DCI ministry. I just got the following report from him.

Simeon shares; “They have seven different Schools and I conducted training in four blocks, The School of Engineering, School of Medicine and Mathematics, School of Arts and Business, and the School of Education which comprised a total of 370 students trained in DCI.

What happened at the university was beautiful to behold. After three days of training, we had 15 students who gave their lives to the Lord and it was these 15 who later went and brought their friends from different student residences, which is similar to the story of the Samaritan woman in John 4 and by Friday we had 130 giving their lives to the Lord. Therefore they requested that we have two more days for the training of these students. I only supervised as the trained students started training these 130 students. So in total DCI trained 500 students. The 130 students are causing a revival! After only a few days they have brought to the Lord 12 more new believers and they are training them. They are beginning Discovery Groups in different residences and to God be all the glory. If this passion continues, then you will be getting more reports from this university.” Simeon also shared: “Students whom I trained two years ago in the same University recently went to Kakuma the world’s largest Refugee Camp and did a DCI training Workshop with over 100 Pastors representing over 90 Churches within the Refugee Camp. They had 93 people give their Lives to the Lord.

Begin Discovery Groups: The Student Trainers helped these Pastors organize and plan Discovery Groups in the homes of the newly born again believers and by the time they left, they had already identified 45 new settlements of their friends who are not born again, and who were more than willing to have them in their families. I also heard from Kakuma Refugee Camp, that the pastors and leaders are going from Tent to

Tent and many are coming to the Lord and are being trained in Dynamic Basics One-to-One and Discovery Groups.”

Just in today (Aug. 23) from Simeon: We have just returned from Isibania (Aug.17–21), at the Border of Kenya and Tanzania. We are tired, but the trip was beyond my expectations! We have never done a training of this kind. We had organized a DCI Training Workshop for about 250 Pastors and Church leaders from the 11 Churches that invited us. What we did not expect was that they literally brought all their members including children because the schools were closed and so they could not leave them at home. Thank God I had gone there with a team of 15 trainers and so three of my team ministered to the children. In Total we trained 730 adults and the 280 school going children ages 5 -13 years. We had 40 adults (including one Pastor) and 280 children who gave their lives to Jesus! They really enjoyed the One-to-One Dynamic Basics. Before we left, they had confirmed 27 Discovery Groups and established a 9 member Pastor’s Life Group.

Believe me, I was moved into tears when I saw children crying and shedding tears because they needed Jesus dearly into their hearts. It was amazing and awesome to see God bring in a new Generation into His Kingdom and great will be the height of His Glory in this area. May God bless you for your prayers.”

Jing Estrella Philippines, Shares:

“We appreciate it so much to know that you continuously pray for us. About the DCI ministry, there is no let up for this. So far (in the last few months) 600 pastors and leaders are exposed to our Discovery Group Process and Strategy. Next week I’ll be in Bukidnon Province to conduct another Workshop (Aug 18-19, 2016) with 70 to 80 pastors and leaders. My plan is to choose 10 to 20 pastors who will commit to start and develop the Discovery Group Ministry in their churches and church planting target areas. We plan to start a Pastors Life Group in October 2016.”

Ramananda in Imphal, Manipur, N. E. India reports:

“I am very happy to let you know that the one month discipleship training program has been completed successfully. All 10 of the church planters are very young and energetic and we pray God’s mighty hand upon them and that He will be with them as they have gone out for three months practical work in their own respective fields. We also thank God that we saw so many changes in the lives of these church planters as they were together with us for the whole month.

Please continue to pray for these ten young workers of the Gospel.”

“One more thing, I have been praying and planning to have two small DCI Leadership Training Workshops – one August 15 – 16 (now complete) and another in October 10 – 11, 2016.” God has graciously provided the finances through some of you!

Peter and Moala Kashung the Leadership Training Centre (LTC)
in India and Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and Myanmar.

Their team of DCI Trainers have planted thousands of churches and they continue to equip and send out many church planters/evangelists.

DCI Reinforcement Training: Moala shares; “We had a wonderful time together with all of our LTC extended Centre Associate Directors and Country Coordinators. We have a new overall DCI Ministry Supervisor – his name is Harish Chandra Binayak. He has just completed a Master of Divinity Degree from the All Nations Theological Seminary, Siligui, India. Also, Mr. Dilip Singh from Bangladesh, whom we have equipped well in our Bible College for the last 3 years graduated in April. We gave him an additional 3 months of training in DCI Strategy, office management with bookkeeping and reporting systems etc. We officially anointed him for his ministry back in Bangladesh.

John Mathuraja – South India and Sri Lanka:

Because of the encouraging results from his last workshops in Sri Lanka, John has been invited to return to Sri Lanka to equip more pastors to develop their churches as disciple-making churches. Thank you to those of you who provided the funds to make this trip possible!

.

Thank you for your prayers and financial support! Through you God is expanding His Kingdom. We together with you are a team and we very much need each other to accomplish the great work God has given us to do!

Northern Malawi Leaders Training

CHIKWINA SECOND LEADERS’ TRAINING

August 29-September 2, 2016

We had a successful trip to Chikwina. We left on Monday, our official travelling day, and we travelled safely and arrived safely at Chikwina.  We were welcomed at the house of Pastor Andrew Banda of Assemblies of God church who accommodated us last time.  Andrew and his wife welcomed us with joy and they were happy to have us as their visitors. We were given a room to sleep and we used our camping mattresses and our sleeping bags. In the same evening pastor Governor Chunda, the coach, came to welcome us in the same house of Andrew Banda. We had a very good interaction, hearing stories of Chikwina area.

The following day the trainings started well and the leaders were happy for the trainings. During Lunch breaks and during sessions we got so many comments on how the work is growing.

Andrew Banda;  said, more people are accepting Christ through these teachings and are being encouraged, and more are so appreciative for the gifts of the booklets as well as the NT Bibles.   (The photo to the right is pastor Andrew Banda and his family.)

Dyson kamanga; said, I belong to New Apostolic Church where usually we are not encouraged to have a Bible, and most of the time they do discourage us to attend trainings like these. For example, after they heard that I attended the first DCI trainings last time, they called me in a tough  meeting for elders where I was asked so many questions, but I stood at the truth that I know about DCI ,that it is there to teach about salvation and discipling people and it is not a church.

I added by saying that, the way I have been taught, what will happen is that I will be teaching people and bring them into this church. They understood, though not satisfied .But after some days as I was discipling people through one to one discipleship, it happened that 4 people accepted Christ and I placed them into the life group, but they had no church, so as I was discipling them I encouraged them to be coming to my church. Now I went again to the elders to confirm my words that the people whom I am teaching will be coming with me into the church, and now their mentality has changed.  For this I believe that many people in my church will know the truth about the Lord Jesus, and now they are appreciating what God is doing.

Governor Chunda; said that the work is growing and many people are coming to Christ.  One very interesting thing is that in our village we have a group of people gathering as a village bank group where people meet every week for their savings.  I shared with them about DCI teachings and they welcomed it.  Now the discipleship is in progress so far. People are accepting Christ and many are happy upon discovering that they are new creations in Christ and they are having a good understanding of their faith.

Chikwina:  At this place more people are involved much in immorality, witchcraft and polygamy, and more of them are illiterate so they do live a typical local life hence practicing witchcraft.  Usually they do target to kill one another by  witchcraft. The one who has gone far with education, and sometimes even the one who has gone far with business become targets. And in the past years, they could even target the one who builds a big house especially when you have used iron sheets for the roof. They had a mentality of seeing anyone going above them financially but all of them should be at the same level of having small houses with grass thatched roofs. But nowadays by the help of different NGOs most of the people are somehow developed and many are able to build houses with iron sheets. And now the leaders we are training they are so encouraged that through DCI teachings the area will continue to develop as well as having love towards each other; hence no killings by witchcraft.

Because it is a place with a good availability of water from the Chikwina hills, people from this place found it as an advantage for growing Indian hemp, (chamba) in a local term, and they could cultivate in a large quantity.  It was for commercial trade and it was an illegal business. After the police discovered them they were sent to jail. And now some are still growing in a small quantity but usually in a hiding places like in a very tip of mountains where they only visit their farms once a week. It is very far, and even when the police reach the farms, it is at their own risk.

The leaders from this place are so appreciative of the trainings we do.  They do believe that their community is going to benefit a lot, for they have already started seeing the fruits of the teachings from the people of this community For example, pastor Andrew Banda is discipling Zabron Nkhata, who at first was a chamba grower and smoker but he was born again through the DCI approach of one to one disciple making.

The leaders from this place do expect that their community will soon be transformed for the power of the gospel is at work in this area. And they added by saying that they know for sure that the lord is using them to change things in their community.

This is how we travelled to Chikwina for our second leaders’ trainings.

Andrew

submitted by Hans and Elly Timmermans:

Hi Friends,

It is so exciting to receive the reports from our team in Northern Malawi.  The work of the Discipleship and Leadership training which they do in the remote northern villages is bearing fruit!  Many are coming to Christ and many are learning for the first time what it means to be a “Christian”.

The letter above was received from Andrew (one of our team members).  Other than a few simple grammar corrections, it is as is was received.

I think that you will be very encouraged to read it.  We receive reports and stories like this one every 2 weeks.  I wish we could pass them all along, but I know that your time is limited.  We appreciate your partnership – your interest in this work; and thank you for your prayers and/or financial support.

We thank God for you!

Haiti Trip – September Update from the Nelsons

September Report

Haiti__16

Most if this newsletter will focus on the recent mission trip to Haiti.

When we arrived in Port Au Prince, we were met by Enock,s brother-in-law, who processed our passports, visa’s and luggage allowing us to avoid the line ups at the airport. Travelling with all the teaching material we are so thankful that it all arrived safely. We joined up with others and proceeded to leave Port Au Prince by vehicles to the city of Mirebalais. Once we arrived at the Vision Citadelle complex we were warmly greeted by staff and surprised by a woman from Minnesota who was doing short term help at the orphanage.

We initially expected 50 pastors and individuals to attend the training. We were prepared for 60 with material. The first day of training 87 pastors and individuals registered. Extra material was printed in a print and copy shop in Mirebalais, creating little to no disruption in the training sessions. The room we were using was now too small and hot, so we moved the training to the church on the site.

We had requested you pray  for the pastors to have hearts prepared to learn and equip their congregations. God gave these pastors a desire to learn so they could train others. Even during a tropical storm which blew rain into the church, they did not waver, but kept working with each other and learning.

Pastor Enock translated some and a Christian leader Jean Claude translated as well. Jean Claude was very impressed with the process and content of the material. He shared he would continue training young people in various areas of Haiti who in turn would train others.

During the week we saw strong evidence that this was Gods time for the harvest in Haiti. Large numbers of people in Haiti have turned to and received Jesus Christ since the earthquake 5 years previous. The call for disciple making is needed and we are happy that the Christians are willingly stepping up to learn and help with the harvest. There are many life problems which came forward during our question and answer sessions, and we pray that many of these questions will be resolved.

We saw some of the devastation from the earthquake with many still homeless. We saw buildings started to accommodate people which were left incomplete due to the money running out. Many churches could be seen filled with people who have come to Christ and many still seeking.

We were given the opportunity to visit a resort on the Caribbean for a day. A day to relax, reflect and visit with team members. This also gave us a view of the many villages of Haiti with people, cars, tap taps, trucks motorcycles and open markets selling mainly food. The roads were crowded and fairly good. We returned to Mirebalais by another route and quickly discovered that what was recently good road had now washed out with rains. The next morning we were to return on the same highway to speak at a church in Les Verrettes Haiti at the invitation of Pastor Joel Arnoux.
The church service was scheduled to begin at 8 am. We were able to leave Mirebalais at 6:30 am after saying farewell to Yves Prophete the executive director of Global Vision Citadelle Ministries. Yves and his staff had made us feel more than welcome during our stay and asked if one day we would return. On the way one of the vehicles front tires was severely punctured and was eagerly changed by local villagers with little or no expectations. Upon arrival at the church which was remote from the city, we were greeted with breakfast prior to the service. A church filled with many young people who had prepared a special service for us with singing groups, worship dancing and words of encouragement. The challenge we left with the church was the time had arrived for the church to engage their nation with disciple making. The pastor announced that that Wednesday he was beginning a training class with the people of the church. After the service and dinner the one vehicle would not start. We proceeded with Chavannes and his wife to Port Au Prince and with help and prayer, the other vehicle started while a large thunderstorm hit the area. Often we had a prayer team back in Canada who prayed through many of the situations we encountered. Technology had allowed us to engage people in prayer immediately.

The mission center also had an orphanage called “All of Gods Children Orphanage”. The mission of the orphanage is “a place for you to go and make the children loved”. We were encouraged to see orphans so well cared for and engaged in praise and prayer three times a day. While we were there a group from Florida arrived to help with some building painting and to operate a Bible school time with the children. There are many orphanages in Haiti and we were able to meet a lady from home who has run an orphanage in Port Au Prince for many years instilling Christian values in the children’s lives. It was encouraging to see these children valued. It was a joy to meet and former blind orphan from Florida who returns for periods of time to teach the children.

When asked if we will miss Haiti, the major thing we would miss is the love for people and the strong desire of the pastors to see their nation changed through discipleship. Will this happen. By all means yes this will happen.

Upon return we have received reports from Haiti.

  • Training classes started  at Jacmel and Cayes Haiti
  • This is Haiti time and hour to do the mending
  • over 20 more people are lined up for discipleship training
  • thank you for being obedient to the call by coming to us

We are so thankful for Gods timing. Yes it was hot and humid and would have been easier in March. We are so thankful for Chavannes and his passion to see this training happen. We are also thankful for the warm care that he and many others gave to us. We are thankful for the passion of Enoch and Ruthza Remy to see discipleship come to their home country. We are thankful for men such as Jean Claude and Joel who labor tirelessly in the work of the kingdom.
We ask two prayer requests.
Pray for all those mentioned in this newsletter.
Pray for Bibles in the Creole language for pastors and churches. Many are without.
God is good.

If you are interested in knowing more about this ministry feel free to contact us. We would love to share with you.

Thanks for reading this letter and in advance for your support and prayers.

Northern Malawi Update

July 2016

Dear Friends of Malawi,
I am bursting to tell you about the amazing growth in the work of disciple-making and leadership training in Northern Malawi. Recently, I questioned our team about the use of the discipling material that was being used (distributed to leaders for their use), wanting to make sure it was being used well, and not wasted. We discovered as we looked into the book inventory which we receive monthly, that the team was handing out approximately 450 – 500 books to one village (a set of 3 training sessions of 4 days each).  When I asked them about this, I received this answer:

“Yes the discipleship is taking place at an explosive pace, hence more materials are needed at the villages. And also the Chichewa-language materials – I just want to say that, at Kabwafu there are a lot of people from the south and central parts of Malawi who are also very much willing to learn from the word of God through D C I. That is why Queen Moyo, the leader from Kabwafu, gives out the material which we have printed in the Chichewa language.”

As you can read, it is hard for us to keep up to the demand for material. Recently, we had 5000 Tumbuka Discipling Basics booklets, and 1000 Chichewa Discipling Basics printed locally in Malawi.

They are disappearing fast. For this, we give God the glory, because each of these booklets represents a life that is seeking to grow as a Christian.

We are thankful for the Bibles and New Testaments in the local languages which ShareWord (The Canadian Gideons) supplies to make this work possible. Praise God for His provisions!

We are also extremely thankful for the car, which we (with your help) have been able to purchase for the team to assist them in their travels. The Nissan is running well, and the team is able to take all the supplies of books and Bibles along with them for the training sessions, as well as their tent and sleeping gear, food, water, etc. Thank you to all of you who have helped with this.

I want to share a few testimonies with you:

Khumbo Lungu says, “I have benefited a lot from DCI teachings, especially the one-to-one discipling which we clearly understand that we need to pass it on. I have seen that most people are accepting Christ – not only through me, but also through those who I have passed it on to….”

Queen Moyo says, “she has already started training some leaders who are very excited and interested to continue being taught and they have said that their lives have changed and they promised to teach others too. So far, more than 11 leaders are ready to be trained….she will organize a meeting with those leaders to conduct the trainings…” (note: see how our team grows with more and more being able to teach the principles of discipleship and leadership? – now, even spreading out into the Chichewa speaking districts. These people do not actually become part of the DCI team, but they are doing the work of DCI in their circle of influence. We thank God for each and every ‘coach’ and ‘trainer’!)

The food shortage is a serious problem in Malawi. Our team tells us that most households do not have enough food for the whole year due to the shortage of rains. Water shortage is also a problem due to lack of rain. “…The Kahanga River that supplies water in a vast area of Ezondweni is already dried up, and usually they have a line up at the borehole (well) in order to find water.  Due to the congestion at the borehole, it happens that water runs out….”

Dear friends, please remember to pray for our brothers and sisters in Malawi and the difficult circumstances they find themselves in.

Please also remember to pray for John Singinie, the leader of the team, who will be getting married on July 30.

We are thankful for each of you who has committed to giving financially to this work. Without you we can’t do it. May God continue to bless and encourage you. Thank you for thinking of us and our team in Malawi; for your words of encouragement and for lifting this work up to the throne of Grace.

On behalf of those in the warm heart of Africa,

Hans and Elly Timmermans

10 Ways to Have a Reproducing Culture

reproduce

by Ron Edmondson

You can’t recruit leaders—at least not effectively—if you never develop a culture to do so.
Reproducing cultures reproduce leaders. Finding new leaders is critical to the successful growth of any church or organization. Kingdom growth is greatly impacted by the numbers of leaders we can recruit.

Therefore, we must strive to recruit more leaders and we do so by having a culture of reproduction. How do we develop that type of culture? Here are 10 ways to have a reproducing culture:

Catch the vision of multiplication
It’s hard to convince people to buy into something you don’t believe in personally. As a leader, you must believe reproducing leaders is a valuable enough process to make it a priority.

.
Be intentional
Every leader in the organization must be willing to consciously replace themselves. Multiplication must be a part of the overall strategy. There must be a continual process of leadership recruitment.

International Financial Needs Update – June 2016

Investing in Building God’s Kingdom!
Dear Friends & Ministry Partners,
Luke 8:4 to 8 says; “While a large crowd was gathering and people were coming to Jesus from town after town, he told this parable: ‘A farmer went out to sow his seed. As he was scattering the seed, some fell along the path; it was trampled on, and the birds ate it up. Some fell on rocky ground, and when it came up, the plants withered because they had no moisture. Other seed fell among thorns, which grew up with it and choked the plants. Still other seed fell on good soil. It came up and yielded a crop, a hundred times more than was sown.’ When he said this, he called out, ‘Whoever has ears to hear, let them hear.’” Invest wisely in God’s kingdom people (good soil) and you will get a great return!
Mary and I have travelled to many countries over the years to train national leaders. Some have done very little with what we equipped them in and others have had amazing ministries! Now as we get older we are focusing on those who are not only having a fruitful ministry (good soil), but are also equipping many other leaders in their own country and some are even going to train leaders in countries near to them. This is proving to be very effective and is also efficient. God has been, and continues to be so faithful to provided the finances to expand the DCI ministry as many of you have given generously when God prompted you to do so! Thank you for that! We are seeing much more ministry happening in these countries now and the cost for each training workshop is greatly reduced. As the ministry expands, however, so does the need for more finances. We have also tried to care for our faithful people who are living in very difficult circumstances. When they have emergencies and it is impossible for them to meet them, we trust God to enable us to help them. You have shown that same compassion for them and when asked, you have stepped up and graciously met those needs. We come to you again with the following opportunities: Please give what you can!
sundarDR. I.G. and Marie Sundararajan – DCI Representatives in South India. They were our first international staff and have served God faithfully with DCI for 26 years. I.G. recently needed back surgery. He is recovering well, but the cost was $2,200.00 CDN. This is something he is unable to cover. Could you help?
Need for back surgery expenses = $2,200.00 CDN.
simeonSimeon and Ann Oyugi – Regional Directors in Nairobi, Kenya. Since our last newsletter Simeon has sent me flow charts that show he has 39 DCI Trainers in Kenya plus 5 in Uganda and 3 in Tanzania. These leaders are all equipped to train Pastors and church leaders who are developing Discovery Groups in their communities. None of these Trainers receive any finances from DCI. Simeon does not receive a regular salary from us, but we do help with travel and training expenses when he goes to new areas because they have no appreciation for the DCI Training yet. Simeon also equips a local leader in each area to be the DCI Representative there. When he is asked to return to those areas to train more pastors he either has the trained local DCI Rep. conduct the training or he expects the local people to cover the cost for his travel, accommodations and training materials etc. This they are willing to do, because they now see the value.
Simeon has had a friend cover the expenses of his rent and food. Sadly this man has lost his job and is not able to continue. We (DCI) have committed to cover the cost for the schooling of their 4 children. He is trying to build a home for his family and he needs $9,500.00 to complete the roof structure and metal roof sheeting. This is needed right way to close his home in before the rains come.
He will also need our help in the months ahead to travel to Burundi, Rwanda and Southern Sudan. These are all new countries inviting him to come and each trip will cost around $3,000.00 CDN.
Needed to complete the roof of his home = $9,500.00 CDN
Needed for travel and training expenses for Burundi = $3,000.00 CDN
Needed for travel and training expenses for Rwanda = $3,000.00 CDN
Needed for travel and training expenses for Southern Sudan = $3,000.00 CDN

estrellaJing and Josephina Estrella – DCI Directors in the Philippines.
Thank you to those of you who invested in the chicken farm. Jing is within $400.00 CDN to be able to complete this self supporting project. This will be such a blessing for him and his family!!
Still needed to complete the chicken farm = $400.00 CDN

John Mathuraja – DCI Representative in South India
John shares; “Rev. Ashok Kumar came from Sri Lanka to our Church in India. I shared with him about our DCI Training and he asked me to conduct this training in his church and several other churches in Sri Lanka. God provided and I did this in April. Our training was very useful to them. The glory is to God for what great things He has done through this training! There is nothing like this available to them in Sri Lanka. They were motivated to disciple believers and help them grow to be leaders eventually. Thereby to fulfill the great commission of Jesus Christ, found in Matthew 28:19, 20. Pastor Ashok Kumar, who was once the President of the Fellowship of Tamil Churches in Sri Lanka knows so many churches. Through his help we can do DCI strategy. Also he has 7 branch churches in 3 districts.
My Future Plans: Pastor Ashok Kumar’s son in law, Suresh Kumar 27 yrs. old, who studied in Colombo Theological College knows 3 languages: English, Tamil and Singalam. I plan to equip him and once he is thoroughly trained in DCI strategy and materials he can be a DCI Trainer there. Therefore, I am praying to God to go back there to equip him and give DCI training with the pastors sometime in the month of August or September. I am so happy about DCI and it has encouraged me to work more among the needy people. Praise God!”
John needs $700.00 CDN for this strategic trip!

Hans and Elly Timmermans – Canadians Directing the work in Malawi, East Africa.
They have recently raised $14,000.00 CDN for the purchase of a vehicle for their team of 4 National leaders, who go out to the villages in Northern Malawi to share the gospel, begin One-to-One Discipleship and start Small Groups. In January 2014 they received the DCI discipling materials that were printed in Egypt. 10,000 Dynamic Basics and 10,000 Dynamic Discipling books. The 10,000 Basics are almost gone and they have had another 5,000 printed in Malawi. These books are making an enormous difference in the lives of the new disciples/followers of Christ. In all likelihood, more than 10,000 have been discipled, since some leaders have been photocopying the Basics for their own outreach. Having these 10,000 copies in the hands of new disciples means that 1 in 140 Tumbuka speaking Malawians in the North have a Basics book and a New Testament in their own language. Great job Hans and Elly!

By God’s amazing Grace we can all make a difference in the lives of many thousands of people! You are making a difference by praying and investing in the lives of these DCI Trainers! Will you ask God how you can help with the above needs?
Thank you for your prayers and financial support! Through you God is expanding His Kingdom. We together with you are a team and we very much need each other to accomplish the great work God has given us to do!
Donations can be sent to the address below or online through Canada Helps or Network for Good in the U.S.
May God bless you all!

Your Brother and Sister in Christ,
Al and Mary Middleton
