Above and Beyond!

Ephesians 3:20-21 “Now to him who is able to do immeasurably more than all we ask or imagine, according to his power that is at work within us, to him be glory in the church and in Christ Jesus throughout all generations, for ever and ever! Amen”.

Family:

Our family vacation began by driving Enoch from Airdrie to Langley B.C. (a 13-hour trip) to join the Langley Rams Football team. Then we travelled 11 hours to Twin Lakes, Idaho, where we spent 10 days with our daughter Lynn and husband Bob, grandsons Josh, Matt and Ashley and our 4 great grandchildren Emma, Orrin, James and Sam. It was a great time of fun and sun! I got up first try on water skis and Mary enjoyed swimming across the lake and back 3 times.

I also read a book titled Dreams and Visions written by Tom Doyle. This book tells many true stories about Jesus appearing to Muslim people in their dreams. They are so moved that they seek out Christians to tell them what it all means. Most become followers of Jesus and are so passionate that they are willing to give their lives for Him. As they share with their family and friends many are coming to faith in Jesus Christ! In Iran a few years back there were only 500 known Christians, today there are over one million. In Afghanistan 8 believers have become over 30,000! This book prepared me for what was about to happen on our return home.

Needed – a Huge Miracle:

Several months ago, I trained a group in our Discovery Group strategy. Stephen, an engineer, began talking with his friends looking for those who are open to learning about God. He found that many people are very interested, but he began to meet individually with 4 men. One was Nick (his real name is very hard to pronounce). After 2 months Nick travelled to visit his family in Afghanistan to share with them the things he was learning about the God of the Bible.

On Wednesday, July 11 Stephen got a phone call from Nick saying that his brother had been kidnapped and the kidnappers were demanding $50,000 USD or they would not release him. Nick sold some property and his wife’s wedding jewelry etc. to raise the money. Nick was told to meet them with the money some 30 Kms. from the city in a remote area. Stephen encouraged Nick to pray for God’s protection in Jesus’ name. After waiting an hour, the men showed, up took the money, blind-folded Nick and took him to his brother (they expected to be shot). They held the 2 brothers for a full day as they decided what to do with them. Finally, they came to them and said they were going to let them go! Nick and his brother found their way back to the city unharmed. Nick called Stephen who asked if he had prayed in Jesus’ name for these men, and he said; “I must have prayed in Jesus’ name a thousand times”. Please pray that this experience will influence Nick’s family to follow Jesus!

Who would have thought that equipping a man in Calgary would have made such a difference in Afghanistan!

Simeon Oyugi – African Director, Reports: “I greet you all in Jesus Name! I look at this trip covering West Africa, Central Africa and finally the Horn of Africa as one of the greatest breakthroughs God has given us as DCI grows exponentially.
If you were to draw the map of DCI’s involvement in Africa, one thing would become clear, we are touching the Atlantic Ocean, the Indian Ocean and the Red Sea with our present locations, and we are just waiting for the Mediterranean Sea to be conquered and if God continues to provide we shall soon see DCI in all of Africa.

I certainly believe God was in the middle of everything on this trip as the unseen Guest providing wisdom and strategically giving DCI positions no man could give.

I thank all the partners who stood with us and provided the funds. May God remember your Labor for Him.

One thing that God did was to give me the right Regional Directors and several National Directors who are key leaders in their own rite and people of influence who are very open to the Gospel and with a passion for Jesus Christ and they are ready to train other Leaders and Churches to experience Growth. Challenges were many, but God proved Himself strong on behalf of DCI and all of us.

As soon as I landed in Sierra Leone, I was received by the Pastors, but Lungi Airport is on the Island and we needed to cross to the mainland by Ferry or the Sea Coach, but I got delayed getting my VISA and when I came out, the only alternative was a Speed Boat and here we literally cheated death as it sailed at night, against the storms and strong tides and the life jackets were fake.

By the Grace of God, we landed, but we all looked like we were swimming in the waters because we were wet all over. And as if the Devil was trying to stop us, the man who was driving the boat fell asleep and we almost rolled, but again God was on our side and we were protected and arrived safely to shore.

The thirst and the hunger of the Churches and Leaders who hosted me for Discipleship and Leadership Training were evident and to them the time was too short. While in other cases, Top Leaders refused to have their people attend, because they thought Dynamic Churches International was going to steal their members after the Training and open a new church with their people. This kind of suspicion was also evident in Ghana, Nigeria and Ethiopia. Other challenges were food, language and weather. I just did not have the right clothes for these coastal towns and I did not have a budget for new ones either and so I endured, and God received the Glory.

Some countries speak French, or Spanish and others spoke Portuguese. I had hired interpreters who did a good job. West Africa and Central Africa have their own way of cooking and acceptable food was only available in big hotels, but God provided.  In Ethiopia Internet and WhatsApp are not available in most places and when available they are controlled and monitored by the Government and so I could not communicate at all. I experienced the same thing in Liberia.

The group of Churches which hosted me in Ethiopia has 4 million people and has connections in Eritrea, Djibouti and Somalia and with time we could also move into Egypt (God helping us) through these churches. I was invited to go back to Ethiopia, so that they can take me to Djibouti, and they will also invite some Pastors from Somalia. This could take place in September or October latest. And because we are looking for a platform to strategically extend to the North, I responded with a good Yes.

As soon as I landed back in Kenya, the Devil was waiting for me, my Uncle was shot dead by Gangs, a young man in the church died in his house, and Emmanuel (our son) was attacked by Ringworms all over his body. I also got a serious flu with sharp headache and pain in my back. One, thing I know, God is on our side. Keep us in your prayers as we encounter some of these challenges.
