Middleton Moment – October, 2026

Thanksgiving!

This is just a thankful update on what has been happening with us over the summer.

We had a very rainy summer here in Alberta but are happy to report that we got out camping 4 different times and had pretty good weather during those times. We usually go with either Mark and Linda and their family or Joan and Earl so enjoy the opportunity to spend quality time with them, our grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.

We were also able to get down to Lynn and Bob’s trailer at Twin Lakes, Idaho for a week. The weather there was gorgeous and we enjoyed swimming in the warm water of the lake and boating. Al tried to get up waterskiing, but it didn’t happen this year. Maybe next year when he is 85!

On Saturday Sept 19th, we were working on the 5th wheel to prepare to put it away for the winter. We were just finishing up when Al tripped on the door sill as he was coming into the RV and fell down hard on his right hip. When he couldn’t get up, an ambulance was called and he was taken to the Misericordia hospital. Our daughter Joan spent the night in the ER with him and I went Sunday morning. (I have been recovering from a bad cold, and a lingering fatigue so wasn’t up to going with him.) He had quite a lot of pain, but God was working on his behalf, and he got in for surgery by 2 pm Sunday. He received excellent care and was able to come home on Thursday the 24th. Thanks be to God for His loving care!

I’m sorry I didn’t get the word out to more of you. I was just letting immediate family know due to my depleted energy. We are thankful to Hans Timmermans for putting out an announcement in the DCI Ministry Newsletter.

We never know what a day will hold and this has been a good reminder not to take anything for granted. Al is progressing well. We are decreasing his pain medication so that is a good sign. Right now, he is sitting at the kitchen table working on a book he is writing and he seems quite comfortable. We have only had 2 outings so far. It’s a lot more complicated when we need crutches and a walker everywhere we go and it tires him out so we will take it slow.

We were thinking we would be going on some road trips to visit old friends but now, we are pretty well house bound for the next few months. We are grateful that our family is near by and able to lend a hand with things we can’t manage just now.

Thank God for help from family and friends!

Will put our more information as the recovery progresses.

We wish you all a blessed Thanksgiving weekend.

Psalm 103:1-4
Praise the LORD, my soul;
all my inmost being, praise His holy name.
Praise the LORD, my soul, and forget not all His benefits —
who forgives all your sins and heals all your diseases,
who redeems your life from the pit and crowns you with love and compassion.

1 Chronicles 16:34 (ESV)
“Oh give thanks to the LORD, for He is good;
for His steadfast love endures forever!
